Conventional handheld wood planers with straight knife cutterheads are noisy and can leave chatter marks in the cut.
These marks require sanding for a smooth surface. Festool planer woodworking machines feature single knife spiral cutterheads that shear cut the material for a cleaner smoother cut that is ready to glue or finish. This design also reduces noise levels for less user strain and greater comfort.
Festool Planing Tools:
- EHL 65, the one handed planer is both ergonomic, as well as powerful. With on the fly depth control, a spiral cutterhead, and 720 watts (6 amps) it fits the bill for most applications whether planing carcasses, trim, panels or doors.
- HL 850 leaves a smooth surface, while removing a full 9/64" of hard maple in a single pass. A special cutterhead design allows it to cut flush with the side of the tool, allowing for unlimited rabbet cuts. You can create different rustic architectural effects easily with textured cutting heads or use the optional bench stand to convert the planer to a jointer for smaller pieces.
