Granat Soft Hand Rolls: The Muscles not Motors Option
For situations where hand sanding is the best, quickest or the only option, soft Granat hand pads are available from 120-800 grit. This is a box with a roll of tear off pads attached to a sturdy spool in the center of the box.
Keep a sheet of 120 or 150 grit in your back pocket or toolbox and you will be pulling it out frequently for hand wiping off everything from pencil marks to fingerprints to surfaces being worked on. The hand sheets are a convenient solution for all those situations that don’t justify setting up a sander and extractor. Finer grits are suited for complete prep of small surfaces as well as finishes.
Measuring about 4-1/2" by 5", and with 208 in a box, there’s about 86 feet in a Granat roll. In comparison to other brands with similar pad rolls, the Granat pads have a cushy but firm backing which makes it easier on the hands. In aggressive hand sanding, or wipe down applications, there is more pad thickness between your fingers and wood splinter wounds.
The pads scuff surfaces quickly but don’t clump or tear easily. They can be folded over or cut to smaller sizes. The pads are durable and can be cleaned off easily with an extractor brush, as Granat is a stearated, load resistant abrasive. The soft pad side of the sheet can be used as a makeshift tack cloth or general soft wiper as well. You can’t hook it to a sander or extractor, but just about everything else is fair game with these pads.
These pads will do everything that you don’t want to bother your power sanders for, and are an economical way to enjoy Festool’s highest mileage and #1 abrasive Granat.
Hand sanding is common in many types of tasks, and in comparison to power sanding with extraction, it can generate a considerable amount of dust on surfaces. The dust doesn’t go airborne, it just stays on the surface and requires cleanup. An extractor is usually present during these tasks.
For faster and cleaner pickup of manual sanding dust on Granat pads and hand sanded surfaces, we offer a brush attachment upgrade that is a handy supplement to the stock round extractor brush because of its optimized size, shape and bristle configuration. It is wider and requires fewer passes on surfaces than the smaller round brushes, so surface cleanup causes less wear and tear on the brush. Because the bristles don’t wear down or shorten so quickly, your risk of marking surfaces with the plastic body of the brush is reduced.
This is the perfect intermediate brush attachment for cleanup tasks where the round brush is too small, but a floor attachment is impractical.
